A lot of people use alcohol mainly for disinfection but there are many more uses of it that you probably didn’t know. In this article we are going to show you some of them. Believe it or not, it can be even used in cosmetics.
1. Remove bed bugs
Bed bugs can be really difficult to remove. You can clean thoroughly but you can still bring them home after a vacation or a stay in an unclean house.
Now you can get rid of them with the help of alcohol. You can put alcohol in a spray bottle and spray it on your bed – mattress and pillows – everything. You should repeat this several times in order to remove the eggs that the bed bugs probably have laid.
2. Replacement for antiperspirant
If you went away for the weekend and forgot your deodorant there is no need to worry because you can use alcohol instead. Just rub your armpits with it and you will remove the bad bacteria that actually trigger the pain. Be careful not to use it for long time since it can burn the skin.
3. Homemade cool pack
You can use alcohol to make ice pack for treating injuries or cooling lunch before going out on a hike. If you freeze alcohol it will not turn into ice but a cold thick mass. In order to make the ice pack you can mix 1 part alcohol with 2 parts water in a sealable plastic bag and put it in the freezer. After a few hours the mix will be thicker and cold, and ready for use.
4. Kill lice
You can also use alcohol to get rid of lice. Just put it in a spray bottle and add a few drops of lavender oil. Spray your hair and scalp with this mix and after at least one hour comb your hair. The mix of alcohol and lavender will kill the lice and you are going to remove them by combing.
5. Clean your ears
Instead of using cotton buds that can be dangerous and burry the wax even deeper in your ear canal, you can use alcohol to clean your ears. Just mix white vinegar and alcohol in a cup and dip the cotton swab in it. Then drop in in your ears and the wax will come out by itself.
6. Remove nail polish
We all usually remove nail polish with acetone that is made from chemicals and can damage our nails. Plus it releases fumes that may make us feel ill. You can use alcohol instead of acetone. It will take a little longer to remove the nail polish but you won’t damage your nails.
7. Remove ingrown hairs
After shaving your legs, bikini line or armpits, little red dots appear everywhere. Apply a little bit of rubbing alcohol on your skin in order to treat the irritation and your skin will look good again.
8. Clear your skin
A lot of creams and tonic for treating acne contain benzoyl peroxide that efficiently treats them, but alcohol can treat them as well. It has relaxing and anti-inflammatory properties that will disinfect your skin and prevent additional acne from appearing. Apply alcohol directly to the acne because it can irritate the other skin.
9. Cold sores
Did you know that 85% percent of people have the herpes virus, but only a small percent of them will experience a break out. If you have a break out you can apply 70% isopropyl alcohol it in order to treat it quickly, as reported by the University of Michigan.
10. Hand sanitizer
You can also use alcohol as a homemade hand sanitizer. You just need to mix 4 oz. aloe Vera gel, half a tablespoon of isopropyl alcohol, and a few drops of tea tree oil. Put them in a sealable bottle and follow the steps shown in this video:
