Though winter is a beautiful season, it’s also the time of year when our immune system might take a beating. There are lots of possible reasons for this– stress of the holidays, lack of Vitamin D, the cold– however regardless, it often leads to us getting cold or flu-like symptoms. As the saying goes, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. More specifically, in this case, you make a detox lemonade to put the pep back in your step and improve your immune system.
What makes the detox lemonade work so well is the combination of ingredients that go into it. Also, the immune system boost from the Vitamin C in the lemons, the recipe also contains cayenne pepper and honey. The combined power of these 2 ingredients works to reduce inflammation while helping with digestion as well. Not to mention the cloves and the ginger which both contain antioxidants and a variety of other advantages! But enough details, you’ll have to try it yourself. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 lemon
- 1 tsp honey
- Pinch of cayenne pepper
- Pinch of ground ginger
- 1 cup of warm water
- Piece of lemon
First, you need to cut a lemon in half and squeeze the juice out of it into a mug of your choice. Though you’ll only need one lemon, don’t hesitate to add more lemon juice for the correct amount of bite.
Next, pour in a teaspoon of honey (though once again, no one will know if you add a bit more to get the balance of sweet and sour perfect). After that, add your pinch of cayenne and your pinch of ground cloves and stir the entire mix together.
Finally, add one cup of warm water and garnish the drink with a piece of lemon. After letting it cool to a proper temperature, sit back and enjoy!
